During the Nov. 10 meeting of the Jacksonville City Council, the council:• Approved an increase in the amount of estimated travel expenses requiring council approval from $500 to $750. This move allows all estimated travel expenses under $750 to be approved by the mayor.
• Unanimously turned down the request of Eloise Canzater to rezone half of her property on Vann Street from B-2 to R-3.
• Approved organizational assignments for all council members. Sandra Sudduth will represent the city with the Jacksonville City Board of Education, Derek Raulerson will serve on the Metropolitan Planning Organization, Mark Jones will serve on the planning commission, Johnny Smith will serve on the East Alabama Planning Commission, Derek Raulerson will serve on the library board, Truman Norred will serve on the Industrial Development Board and council members will rotate in serving as part of the Jacksonville Merchants Association.
• Authorized Mayor Johnny Smith and Finance Director/Treasurer Rita Spruiell as signers on all bank accounts for the city. Mayor Pro Tempore Sandra Sudduth is authorized to sign in Smith’s absence and Human Resources Director Nell Coleman is authorized to sign in Spruiell’s absence.
• Approved specifications and authorized bids to contract biosolids handling at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
• Amended the job description for the position of finance/revenue specialist. The revised job description requires those hired in the position to receive certification for revenue officer, government accounting technician or other certifications, depending upon the recommendation of their supervisor and based upon their job duties.
The next council meeting, on Nov. 24 at 7 p.m., may be held at the Jacksonville Community Center, if it is available, because of the number of people expected to attend the public hearing concerning Cole Drive. Everyone is encouraged to check the meeting notices posted at City Hall, the police station and various other places throughout town to be sure of the meeting location.
