George Smith: Long 'trip' in a very short time
|
FRIDAY'S LIST ... of beans 'n greens 'n other things:
SOMETIMES things really do work.
A case in point is a small bottle of prescription med I left in a buddy's house on a recent trip to Columbus, Ohio.
Later, 40 miles south at an aunt's home in Circleville, I called the Wal-Mart pharmacy at Lenlock, discovered the prescription had expired, and was told to call the doctor.
I did, in Birmingham. A receptionist said, "I'll tell his nurse."
Within 10 minutes, the nurse (in Birmingham) called me (in Circleville) to say "I've faxed your prescription to the Lenlock Wal-Mart."
I called there.
"We have it," was the word, "I'm putting it in our system now."
One hour later, I picked up the prescription at Wal-Mart in Circleville.
From Circleville to Lenlock to Birmingham to Circleville to Lenlock to Circleville, the route was like an hour and 15 minutes ... without so much as a bleep.
That impresses me.
Frazier Burton is back in uniform and again the main man at the Blue Mountain Post Office in the Anniston Plaza.
Frazier came back to work on Oct. 8, having been sidelined for almost six months following an automobile accident on April 4.
A broken leg is mended. but he still wears a brace.
"I'm still kicking, but not as high," says Frazier, very nice man now in his 35th year with the postal service.

TOP TEEN: Say hello to Michael Cody Areno, president of Ohatchee High's Class of '09 for the second straight year and is also vice-president of the FBLA.
Cody carries a 3.1 GPA and is the "whiz" when computers go awry at the high school, having won the "Technology Guru" award every year since eighth grade.
"If technology is involved, Cody is the one who helps," says Heather Almaroad, business education teacher and FBLA adviser. "Every summer, before school starts, I recruit Cody to help me get the computer lab back in order and in working condition. I also recruit him to help during the teacher-in-service days in getting all the teachers' computers running for the first day of school.
"He has made my life so much easier," adds Almaroad.
A member of the Alabama Air National Guard, he looks to a degree in aviation at Auburn and becoming a commercial pilot.
Proud parents are Mike and Julia Areno.
Take a bow, young man ... a deep one.
