Tree trouble

Jacksonville residents got a small reminder of one good reason to trim trees around power lines on Thursday when an early afternoon storm blew through town.

Trees and limbs fell into roadways and power lines, causing power outages and other disruptions, such as the problem one Guthrie’s employee now faces since her car was smashed by a falling branch.

“This kind of validates what we’ve been doing,” said Alabama Power spokesman Buddy Eiland as he reported that, at 5:00 Thursday afternoon there were still five Jacksonville residents without power due to the storm.

He attributed the small number of outages to the trimming already completed in many parts of town.

“Some of those areas we had trimmed some trees already and that may have helped,” he said.
