Committee selects black oak

By Klaus Duncan
Jacksonville Garden Club
08-20-2008

The purpose of the Jacksonville Historic Tree Committee of the Jacksonville Garden Club is to identify historic trees in our city. A historic tree’s crown-spread, height and circumference are determining factors in selection.

The owner of the historic tree will be presented with a permanent marker. The committee is comprised of Scott Beckett, Susan Di Biase and Klaus Duncan.

A black oak on Don Calvert’s property on Pelham Road has been selected

The tree measures 54 inches in diameter and is about 200 years old. The tree was on the site before the Magnolias (c 1852) was built.
