Melda Witherby: Angels spend week in Illinois

07-30-2008

• Roscoe and Gladys Angel and their grandchildren Olivia and Emma Angel of Huntsville recently flew to Caledonia, Ill., where they spent an enjoyable week with their son Roger, his wife Lisa and their children, Katie, Laura and Nikki Angel. After returning to Huntsville to take Olivia and Emma home, they spent a few days with the girls and their parents Ricky and Lisa Angel before returning home. While there they enjoyed getting to hear Ricky and the members of his former quartet, Calvary Road, sing together at a homecoming at Ricky’s church.

• Descendants of John R. and Annie Wynn Bryant, relatives and friends, gathered in the Jacksonville Community Center on Saturday, July 19, to celebrate their annual family reunion. These gatherings are usually so happy, but hearts were hurting this year as we mourned the loss of Duane who left us so suddenly in June. There were tears, but also laughter as we remembered him. We were very happy that Duane’s widow, Pat, their son Allen and his family were able to be there. We were also thrilled to see how much better Donald Bryant is doing since his recent surgery.

• Angel’s JOY group and a host of guests enjoyed a luncheon in the fellowship hall last Thursday and the outstanding entertainment provided by the Un-Reconstructed Band. One really has to see this band to truly understand and appreciate how very talented they are. Those attending and patting their feet were Vanessa George, Carolyn Burgess, Louis and Shirley Bell, Wanda Chastain, Charlene and Wayne Houser, Lloyd and Joy Garner, Bernard Boozer, Gwinette Salers, James Johnson, Mike and Melda Witherby, Myrtle Casey, Billy Taylor, Lou Black, Truman and Cheryl Norred, Mildred Johnson, Mery Homesley, C. • Special music in the worship service on Sunday morning at Angel Grove Church was a solo by young Miss Shea O’Donnell. She received a standing ovation after her performance.

• Also on Sunday morning, Daniel O’Donnell was baptized, and the congregation welcomed new members Bill and Melody Cook.
