White Plains High School has gotten a new football coach as the school moves into 3A. Heath Harmon, and his family are getting settled in the community. Heath and his wife Holley have two children. Halaya is 6 and Hudson is 4. Halaya will be in the second grade at White Plains Elementary, and Hudson will go to daycare at Cornerstone Fellowship.Heath grew up in Munford. He attended kindergarten through 12th grade there. His bachelor’s in secondary education, English and history is from Jacksonville State University. He received a dual master’s in English and administration from the University of Alabama.
Heath comes to White Plains from Andaulsia High School where he coached for a year. Prior to that he coached three years in Munford. His record last year in Andalusia was 11-2, and his team advanced to the third round of play-offs.
Heath takes a few words from Nehimiah 4 in the Bible. He likes the saying “progress through opposition.”
He says when he’s not coaching he likes to spend time with his family and play golf. He said his family is excited about moving to White Plains. Holley is from Gadsden. She will teach 11th and 12th grade English at White Plains.
“We’re happy to be in White Plains,” said Holley. “This is closer to home for me, and it’s such a good community to raise your family in. It’s a place where you’d like to stay put.”
Heath’s first games at White Plains will pit the Wildcats against Donoho at Donoho on Aug. 29. During the season the Wildcats will face Leeds on Sept. 5, Pleasant Valley on Sept. 12, Glencoe on Sept. 19, Spring Garden on Sept. 26, Piedmont on Oct. 3, Tarrant on Oct. 10, Weaver on Oct. 17, Wellborn on Oct. 24, and Ohatchee on Oct. 31.
