Statistics show that more than 73 percent of child safety seats are used improperly. In order to make sure that children in the Jacksonville community are safe, State Farm Insurance agent Mike Douglas and his staff sponsored a Child Safety Day on Wednesday, May 14, at First Baptist Church.
Over 40 families stopped by for certified child passenger safety technicians to inspect their car seats.
Those seats that were out of date or not safe were replaced with new child safety seats.
The certified inspectors are volunteers with the Northeast Chapter of Safe Kids. Twelve new child safety seats were given to those recipients whose car seats were out of date or damaged.
Agent Mike Douglas representing State Farm Insurance Company of Jacksonville and Piedmont was on hand to give away State Farm coloring books with crayons, wooden airplanes, children’s road atlases, and other items to the children.
