Snakes! Snakes! Snakes!

11-22-2006

Dr. Chris Murdock, assistant professor of biology and molecular endocrinology at Jacksonville State University, spoke to the Jacksonville Garden Club Nov. 15 in the Fireside Room of the Community Center.

Dr. Murdock made a presentation of common lizards, turtles and snakes found in area gardens as well as other reptiles residents may encounter.

His live display of the California King Snake and Yellow Rat Snake, not native to this area, regaled the members of the club with some “snake handling” by several in the club.

Linda Schiff presided over the business meeting. Projects and future projects were discussed and members volunteered or were appointed to organize several prospective projects.

Attending were Mary Andrews, Doris Baucom, Jan Case, Sara Dixon, Karin Drewes, Klaus Duncan, Nancy Gillespie, Millard Hanbury, Karen Henricks, Sandra Kelly, Truman Norred, Linda Schiff, Carolyn Patton, Tami Shipp, and new member Freda Ireland. Hostesses for the meeting were Ria Jane Chiepalich and Margaret Johnson.
