Knox Concert Series

08-14-2008

The Knox Concert Series is back for its 63rd year, keeping up the tradition of presenting classical events for all Annistonians to enjoy.

The season kicks off in September with pop music icon Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. During his career, Valli has produced 19 Top 10 hits and more than 100 million record sales worldwide. Valli got his first number one Billboard spot in 1962 with "Sherry," and has been making hits ever since, including the best-selling title track for the hit movie Grease.

The fun continues in November with "Chicago," the musical tale of sin, scandal and celebrity. This popular Broadway musical has won six Tony Awards, two Oliver Awards and a Grammy.

Start the holiday season off right with a Knox Concert Series tradition, "The Nutcracker." The Alabama Ballet is one of six companies in the world licensed to perform George Balanchine's masterpiece. As always, "The Nutcracker" is not included in the Series' season ticket price.

The Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra will present the first concert of the new year. Founded in the mid-19th century, the orchestra represented a pillar of Irish classical music. After a history reflective of the unrest in Ireland over the next 150 years, the orchestra was reconstituted in 1997 under the direction of Derek Gleeson.

The Russian National Ballet Theatre brings the ultimate fantasy love story, "Don Quixote," to Anniston in February. The company includes leading dancers from across Russia, along with stars of the Bolshoi and Kirov ballets. The performance is a dance through Quixote's fantasy world of giant windmills and other obstacles in search of adventure and the beautiful Dulcinea.

The Series' fifth concert, which will be some time in April, has yet to be scheduled.

All performances take place at the Anniston Performing Arts Center on the campus of Anniston High School. Season tickets are now on sale for $150 and can be purchased by calling 237-3897 or e-mailing knoxconcert@aol.com. For "Nutcracker" tickets, call 832-4554.
