The 16 and up NEAT Heat fast pitch softball team recently won the 2008 ASA state championship at Woodland Park in Anniston.
The team also came in as first runner up in the 2008 NSA state championship held at Liberty Park in Vestavia.
Team members include, front row, left to right, Brandy Ray of Ohatchee, Tish Lane of Pell City, Becca Sloan of Woodland and Brooke Vingers of Oxford; back row, left to right, head coach Rodney Hopkins, Katie Burgess, Logan Hopkins, both of Alexandria, Sommar Wright of Etowah County, Morgan Hopkins of Alexandria, Haley Rollins of Woodland and assistant coach Jack Sloan.
Team members not pictured include Laura Roberts of White Plains, Halee Henry of Alexandria and Lynden Curry of Centre.

The Sacred Heart Catholic School Cheerleaders recently returned from a National Cheerleaders Association summer camp at Auburn University where they earned special recognition.
During the final awards ceremony June 6, the Sacred Heart cheerleaders received the prestigious NCA Spirit Stick, which is presented to the squad showing the most sincere spirit and enthusiasm throughout the week at camp.
The squad also earned the Most Improved Award, which recognized consistent improvement in the areas of technical skill and cheerleading technique.
Members of the 2008-09 squad include: Emily Greene, Maggie Kerper, Samantha Kerper, Amanda Mauter, Ashton Reaves, Kristen Rothwell, Lauren Rothwell, Emily Sedmak, Georgia Sedmak and Mary Wackerle.
Maggie and Samantha Kerper were recognized as All-American nominees for displaying strength in motions, jumps and tumbling.
