2 big banking sector acquisitions completed

ATLANTA — Two mega acquisitions in the banking sector have been completed following the biggest financial crisis to hit the United States since the 1930s, capping a year in which Wall Street stocks were hammered, home foreclosure rates soared and job losses mounted.

Noble Bank adding Piedmont location

Anniston-based Noble Bank and Trust is adding Piedmont to its location this month. The company is spending around $100,000 to retrofit the former Taylon's Treasures building on the corner of West Ladiga and Main streets into the bank's newest location, said Noble Bank and Trust President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Humphries.

Panel wants fuel taxes hiked to fund highways

WASHINGTON — A 50 percent increase in gasoline and diesel fuel taxes is being urged by a federal commission to finance highway construction and repair until the government devises another way for motorists to pay for using public roads.
