Miss Cheaha Pageant
The Miss Cheaha Pageant will be at 10 a.m. April 12 at Oxford Civic Center, sponsored by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Entry fee is $50; $30 for the second child. Memorial classic
The Barbara Johnson Memorial Spring Classic is April 23 at Cider Ridge, sponsored by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Entry fee is $55 per person. Hospice care
The senior center on Ladiga Street will host a presentation from Southern Care Hospice at 10 a.m. Monday. Tina Kurdziel, volunteer coordinator, will speak. the public is invited.
Healthy run for kids
Anniston Orthopaedics and the YMCA are sponsoring a Healthy Kids Day Run April 12. Registration starts at 6:30 a.m. The race is at 8 a.m. in front of the Norwood Hodges Community Center in Golden Springs. There are a two runs — a 5-K run and a one-half mile run run/walk. Kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration at Kitty Stone Elementary School is from 8:15-11:30 a.m. April 22-25. Students with the last name beginning with A-F will register on April 22; G-L, April 23; M-R, April 24 and S-Z, April 25. April 29 is make up day. The child must be 5 on or before Sept. 1, must have an official birth certificate, Alabama immunization card, proof of residency (recent power bill, phone bill, etc., with address),social security card and custody papers (if applicable).
Senior dance
A senior dance will be from 7-10 p.m. April 17 at the community center in a smoke free, alcohol free environment for $5 per person. The Sundance Band will play. For more information, call 435-8115.
Anti drug prevention
The House of Refuge is sponsoring several anti drug prevention programs for children, alcoholics and drug addicts. A Narcotics Anonymous group, which is called a New Perspective meets in the fellowship hall of St. Paul CME Church on East Vann Street at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There will be an open house from 7-9 p.m. March 27. The public is invited.
Anti drug activities
Anti drug prevention activities for boys and girls ages 6-17 will be held at the House of Refuge from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. March 24-27 in the fellowship hall of St. Paul CME Church on East Vann Street. Wildlife supper
New Hopewell Baptist Church will host a free wildlife supper from 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday, with singing afterwards featuring the Swordsmen. The church is on Calhoun County 19 in the Roy Webb community. Rev. Rodney Ledbetter is pastor.
Yard sale
There will be a yard sale from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall of Pleasant Valley Holiness Church. Items for sale include what knots, Home Interior, pictures, books, dishes, some antique aluminum kitchen items, glassware, baskets, odds and ends. From Alabama 204, turn onto Pleasant Valley Road beside West Point Grocery. The church is about three miles on the right.
Camp meeting
Pleasant Valley Holiness Church will have a camp meeting March 26-28. Morning services are at 10 a.m., with lunch served immediately afterwards. Evening services are at 7, with a canteen available afterwards. Everyone is invited.
Diabetes awareness
Parents of children with diabetes health professionals, teachers, school nurses, diabetes educators and the general public are invited to a diabetic awareness and family outreach community meeting at 2:30 p.m. April 6 in the recreation center on Ladiga Street Southeast. Trip to Chattanooga
The Oxford Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a senior citizen trip to Chattanooga Saturday-Monday for $270 per person, double occupancy. The trip includes two nights accommodations at the Hampton Inn, attractions, including Rock City, Ruby Falls, Aquarium, Imax, riverboat dinner cruise, incline railway, two dinners (one at the Chattanooga Choo-Choo), deluxe continental breakfasts, motorcoach transportation and shopping at Warehouse Row (outlets). Training program
Alabama Industrial Develop-ment Training (AIDT) will conduct its Alabama Works Fast Track job training program in Anniston on the campus of Ayers State. Classes last for 10 weeks and will begin in early April. A high school diploma or GED is required, training is free and job placement assistance is provided.
